Start with the institution, not a city ranking
Neither Chengdu nor Chongqing is universally better for planned care. The first question is which hospital department can appropriately review the records and explain the next clinical step. A hospital name, city reputation or a directory entry does not establish suitability for a particular diagnosis, procedure or treatment date.
Compare the exact route to the campus
After an appropriate route is identified, compare international and domestic arrival options, travel time to the actual campus, traffic patterns, registration location and the ability to return for tests or follow-up. Large institutions can operate multiple service areas. Confirm the Chinese address, building and appointment point from the hospital rather than using a general map pin.
Plan for recovery logistics
Chengdu and Chongqing differ in geography, hotel distribution and day-to-day routes. In Chongqing, hills, layered roads and steep walking routes can matter for a person with limited mobility; in either city, an accommodation choice should be assessed for lift access, bathroom layout, proximity to the campus, food and companion needs. These are practical factors, not evidence of a medical advantage.
Use local support as support, not treatment
A local coordinator may help arrange interpreter time, airport or station transfers, appointment-day orientation and non-medical accommodation planning. Scope, availability and fees should be confirmed in advance. Coordination does not make the coordinator a hospital representative, does not guarantee language provision by the hospital and never replaces medical assessment, consent or emergency care.
Keep the itinerary flexible
Testing, record review or clinical reassessment can change the schedule. Avoid building a multi-city tourism plan around a first consultation or assuming an outpatient visit will lead directly to admission. Ask the department what could extend the stay and follow the treating team's advice about activity and travel after any procedure.
A useful comparison worksheet
For each option, record: hospital and department; exact campus; purpose of the first visit; requested records; expected timing; language-support plan; payment route; companion arrangements; accessible accommodation; local transport; and follow-up requirements. Compare written operational answers, not promotional claims. The clearer route is often the more manageable choice.
